Predator calls

Looking at getting a call/decoy, mostly want to hunt cougar and bobcats.  There are a ton of motion decoys, calls and combinations.  Anyone have a recommendation?  My first time doing this so don't really want to invest a lot of money in it just yet.  Anyone use their phone and a blue tooth speaker?  What kind of range do those things get?

If youre new to predator calling and dont want to spend a bunch of money, why not just get a lung powered call for now?  They work just fine.

A remote caller will make calling in tighter cover easier.  One of the lower end callers FoxPro, Lucky duck, Western Rivers, etc. will work fine for a starter.  As you grow in your pursuit of predators you will learn what features appeal to you and would be useful.

I still use a 20+ year old Minaska Bandit for a goto caller for tight cover, I also have a FP CS-24 and crossfire.  The CS-24 comes out in big open country and the Crossfire rides along as a back up(I won it).

A large sound library isn't needed, I rarely use more than a dozen sounds through the whole season.

Scent and movement are your nemeses in close cover.  I open country you can kill them out a ways before they can smell or spot you.  In tight cover when they will be in close a remote caller can direct your attention away from you and your scent.

I've been by happy with my Lucky Duck Rebel, which I paid $120 for. I just now Googled it though, and see it on one site for under $60. That would be a purchase you definitely won't regret. The sound quality is exceptional, and it comes with a decoy. Only has 12 sounds but they pretty much cover any kind of predator hunting you'll do.

Sorry I should have copied the link yesterday. I can't find it now. I do see one on eBay for $65. Even at the regular price of $120 it's a bargain.

Rick makes some great calls, I have one in each of my call bags for a back up and most of the time if I'm using a mouth call it is a R&R, TT or Sceery bite call.
